How To Cut Back On Your Lawn Care Costs Without Hurting Your Lawn.

In my 30 years in the lawn care industry, I have seen and talked to many customers regarding how to reduce the annual cost of their Full Lawn Care Program.

It usually it's starts something like this:

  1. I receive a phone call from a concerned customer who has to make some budget cuts.
  2. Their first thought is they have to do away with EVERYTHING...

But there is a middle ground! There is HOPE!

A good company can identify the goals of a customer and help them find something that allows them to maintain the investment that they've already put into their lawn yet not break the family budget.

Top 5 Ways to Cut Your Lawn Care Costs:

1.  Go with a cheaper company:

Companies such as Trugreen, TLC (Shrewsbury, MA) and Central CT Lawn Services offer really great prices that are very attractive.

Be sure to do research and make sure they aren't leaving any services out of their Full Lawn Care programs. View what's included in our Premium Fertilization Program here.

2.  Cancel Services altogether.

Your lawn is an investment. When you have worked on it for years and it's in an amazing place, your lawn can become accustomed to its diet. When your lawn's diet changes and the practices aren’t there to control the competitors like weeds, crabgrass, insects and grubs, your lawn has a way of resenting you.

This can result in the need to reseed these lawns and start from zero -  ultimately costing you more..

3.  Reduce the number of services.

Continuing to work with a company you trust and have a relationship with is often the best strategy to keep your lawn looking its best.

Give them a call and see what can be reduced. They should be able to let you know what to expect with cutting a specific service.

Depending on your goals for your lawn, you may have to realign your expectations but a company that cares about you will be more than willing to spend the time helping you with this.

4. Do it yourself.

If you are confident in your ability to safeguard your lawn, this is a great way to cut your lawn care budget.

The internet has an amazing amount of information to help the do-it-yourselfer achieve good results.  Beware, this can sometimes be limited to basic lawn care strategies.

The real challenge becomes evident when summer comes and the insects and diseases start to create brown spots and you're not sure what to do. This is where working with a trusted lawn care professional part time can be a value to you, the homeowner.

5.  Shop Around.

Things to look out for:

  • Price increase after price increase.
  • Extra chargers for services that were already in your original lawn care program.

If you just don't feel comfortable in the value that you're receiving, get a couple different estimates. As always, read the reviews!  Going cheaper could sometimes actually cost you more in the long run.

Bottom line.

If your lawn care company truly cares about you and your business, they will be willing to work with you to modify a program that will help to manage and maintain the investment that you've made in your lawn over the years.

Even if you decide that you need to cancel, they will be there for you if you get in trouble. The key is finding an honest company that you trust.
